Down syndrome (DS)

Prattasha Samazik Unnayan Sangstha (PSUS) The project has proposed 42 villages in Chuadanga Sadar Upazila, Alamdanga Upazila and Damurhuda Upazila which are known as boarder prone areas. The most of the people specially the people with disability are living at risk of health, inclusive Education, Livelihood, social and empowerment. Non-government rganizations (NGO) have come forward with the development activities for the Children with Disabi;itiess. However, some government supports have been existed in all over of Bangladesh. It cannot reach to the poorest people as well as the people with disabilities (PWDs).

Total Beneficiaries: Persons with Disabilities – 50, Boys – 33, Girls – 41, Youth – 26, Total: 150
Duration: June 2024 to December 2024
Project Goal: Down syndrome Children and young people with disabilities are enjoying basic and special services and supports and equal opportunities.
Specific Objectives of the Project:
- Improved functional capacity and mobility of 50 children/youths with disabilities.
- Improved understanding and awareness among duty bearers on inclusive health services for children/youths with disabilities.
- Increased access to health services by children/youths with disabilities and their families.
- Enhanced Income Generation Skills of Youths with Disabilities in agriculture and animal farming.
- Increased numbers of youths with disabilities engage in livelihood/income generation activities.
- Increased financial capacity of youths with disabilities.
- Increased awareness of the right to participation, inclusion, and contributions by children/youths with disabilities.
- Enhanced voice of self-help groups of youths with disabilities and parents/caregivers.
- Inclusion of children/youths with disabilities into safety net programs of the government.
Activities:
- Life Learning ADL, Psychosocial, appropriate Educational support for 20 children and parents.
- Organize inclusive cultural program (Art, inclusive sports, drama, ADL etc.) (DS Day and DS awareness month).
- Income generation start-up/scale-up funds support to 3 for Parents/ Caregiver of Children with Disabilities.
- Provide Skill Training to 50 Caregiver / Parents Provide Skill Training to 3 Caregiver / Parents
- Provide need based medical & rehabilitation support towards the identified children direct and referral.
- Need based medicine support for Down syndrome children.
- Quarterly meeting with Parents forum group meeting (PFG) 2 group possible agenda: home base therapy, Activities of daily living (ADLs or ADL), Assistive Devices, admission at school, livelihood support. Home Accessibility, Child Safeguarding.
Project Outputs/Outcomes:

Physiotherapist of JPUF and Academy Supervisor of District Secondary Education Office were present as resource persons in the skill training program for Caregivers/Parents.
