Promoting rice Cultivation that Reduces the Burden on Groundwater (PCRBG) Project, funded by the TOTO Foundation, Japan in collaboration with Share the Planet Association and implemented by the Prattasha Samazik Unnayan Sangstha (PSUS), is being carried out in the Damurhuda upazila. The project aims to Promoting rice Cultivation that Reduces the Burden on Groundwater and encourages efficient water usage, and create a long-term, replicable model for local farmers. The project is implementing various activities to achieve this goal. The overview of the project is as follows:

Project Name: Promoting Rice Cultivation that Reduces the Burden on Groundwater (PCRBG) Project.

Donor Organization: TOTO Foundation, Japan.

Aligns with SDGs: SDG 13 and SDG 15.

Total Beneficiaries: Men – 550, Women – 50, Boys – 20, Girls – 10, Youth – 40, Persons with Disabilities – 10, Harijan – 7, Dalits -6, Blacksmiths – 4, Potters -4, Servants – 7, Fishermen – 3. Total: 711

Duration: April 2025 to March 2026

Overall Goal of the Project: Encourage farmers to produce rice Cultivation that Reduces the Burden on Groundwater, a replicable model for local farmers using efficient water usage.

Specific Objectives of the Project: To encourage farmers in safe food production, promote sustainable, eco-friendly, efficient water use, and the practice of good agriculture, creating a long-term replicable model for local farmers.

Activities:

  •     Base Line Survey
  •     Field Day Training
  •     Provision of agricultural materials (irrigation pipes)
  •     Provision of agricultural materials (seed preservation drum)
  •     Excavation of 40 reservoirs/Digging small water preservation ponds with display boards
  •     Soil test (nutrient test) and Upazila Campaigning Meeting with government officials
  •     Internal & External Exposure Visits for Learning Sharing
  •     AWD Training
  •     Organic farming, worm composting, proper soil management training
  •     Seed production and storage training.

Project Outputs/Outcomes:
This project has: Encouraged farmers to produce rice Cultivation that Reduces the Burden on Groundwater, a replicable model for local farmers using efficient water usage. It has improved the capacity and mobility skills of 1110 poor people and people with disabilities and integrated them into the mainstream of society.
